The task

A catalogue of several thousand designs normally means several gigabytes of photographs, a slow catalogue and expensive hosting. The question was whether the same effect could be achieved without a single stored image.

Approach

  1. 01

A design is a pure function of its number: category, palette, style, name and code are derived from the same integer, and the artwork is then drawn as SVG by one of 21 generators — landscapes, botanicals, geometry, marble, terrazzo, space.

  2. 02

Images are served by a route returning SVG with immutable caching: full resolution for the design page, a lighter variant for the card grid.

  3. 03

Filters live in the URL and are applied server-side, so the browser never receives the whole catalogue.

  4. 04

Price is computed from material, design surcharge and finishing, multiplied by area.

  5. 05

Enquiries are sent by email without extra packages; with nothing configured they are written to the function log rather than lost.

Result

The home page loads about 26 kB of imagery. Measured on simulated 4G with a 4× CPU slowdown: home page LCP around 2.0 s at CLS 0, catalogue around 0.9 s.
